Simple Joy in a Complex World

Posted: May 17, 2025

Maybe it's a sign of aging but I find the world seeming increasinly more and more complicated. The complexity is in fact nearly overwhelming. I think our constant connected lives are party to blame for this sensation. Time feels like it's accelerating as if entering into a technological event horizon.

I think maybe the solution is to disconnect from the digital storm, and reconnect with a simpler lifestyle. Admittedly that's very difficult with a smart phone always in my pocket.

My theme for this year has been the Year of Analogue. My goal is to become more aware of myself and the world around me, appreciative of the people I encounter, and all the gifts in creation.

Two Christmases ago my wife gave me a bird feeder and that single gift has made such a difference in my awareness of the beauty all around. I quickly got a second feeder, and this Spring we built a garden and had our first green beans for supper a few days ago. Life is strange and beautiful and wonderful if you stop to notice it.
