Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
After the Atari brought video game consoles to households Nintendo and Sega were soon to follow with 8-bit systems that really increased the quality of what was possible in video games.
In the 8-bit era, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was king and truly dominated the home video game market until the dawn of the 16-bit era. Most of this is due to the overall excellent quality of the games produced for the NES, as well as strict licensing restrictions that Nintendo put on its third-party game developers which forbade their development for rival consoles. This was the beginning of the "console wars".
Some of the best Nintendo games include:
- Super Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3
- Metroid
- Excitebike
- Galaga
- Tetris
- Contra
- Blaster Master
- the Mega Man series
- And many others...
